About the Electricity Cost Estimator

The FairAir Electricity Cost Estimator tool will estimate the maximum energy cost that may be required for a reverse-cycle air conditioner to provide 24/7 heating and cooling coverage for a year. It will also estimate the energy cost that may be required for a reverse-cycle air conditioner to provide heating and cooling for the average number of hours per day specified.

The location selected determines the “active” hours per year – the number of hours per year (out of 8,750 hours) that the unit operates to provide heating or cooling.

The user inputs the average daily use (in hours) and the cost of electricity (default is $0.29/kWh).

The user inputs the rated cooling capacity of the unit and star rating of the unit, which determines the input power.

The tool then estimates the cost of electricity to run the unit for a year, for both usage profiles.
